Mysore, a princely state ruled by the Wadiyars’ the Maharajas of Mysore. The oriental research institute was established by His Highness Sri. Chamaraja Wodeyar Bhahadur, the then Maharaja of Mysore, in the year 1891 as edifice of Indo-Sarcenic style it stands today as an integral part of the Mysore University. This institute is a two storey structure that incorporates elements on Indian, Indo-Islamic, Neo-Classical and Gothic revival styles. The aim of this institute is to collect, preserve, edit and publish the rare valuable manuscripts in Sanskrit and Kannada on palm leaf as well as paper of our nation.
